How Do You Detect A Water Leak?

Water leaks can cause significant structural damages and result in costly repairs. It's important to detect and fix water leaks immediately to prevent further damages and losses.
There are several methods to detect water leaks, including:
  • Turn off Water and Check the Meter
Checking your water meter is a simple way to detect water leaks. Turn off all sources of water in your house (faucets, sprinklers, etc.), and then check your meter. If the meter still runs, it means there's a leak in your plumbing system. If you identify a leak, you'll have to find where the leak is coming from.
  • Look for Leaks Under Sinks and around Appliances
Leaking pipes under sinks (sump pump, basement, kitchen, ) or appliances such as your dishwasher, washing machine or water heater can cause significant water damage over time. Check under your appliances for any signs of water leaks. You should also inspect the supply lines and shut off valves to detect any slow leaks or drips.
Have you tried the methods mentioned above? How much time will it take? What would happen if you forget to check?
